Android 18, born Lazuli and sometimes informally referred to as 18 for short, is a recurring character from Dragon Ball. She made her debut in Genesis.

Canon[]

Android 18 is initially a supporting villain, and later, a major recurring character from Dragon Ball.

Android 18 is the twin sister of Android 17 and Dr. Gero's eighteenth android creation, designed to serve Gero's vendetta against Goku. While her interests do not initially deviate from this expectation, 18's curiosity to activate Android 16, in spite of Gero's orders not to do so, leads Android 17 to take it upon himself to murder Gero. Eventually, Android 18 became an ally of the Z Fighters, as well as the wife of Krillin and the mother of their daughter Marron.

Pre-Convergence[]

It is unknown from what point in the canon timeline 18 hailed from, but judging from her monologues, which depict her thinking of her husband Krillin and daughter Marron, it can be assumed that she is at the very least from roughly around or any time after the Majin Buu Saga.

It is presumed she was living her normal, everyday life before being kidnapped by Umbrella.

Plot Involvement[]

Genesis[]

Android 18 woke up in the chamber with the others, her deadpan snark instantly bouncing off those who would otherwise be clueless, like Clark Kent. With a device planted in her head that forced her to obey Umbrella and restricted her powers, she was forced to fight S.H.I.E.L.D. on Umbrella's behalf. During this fight, she targeted Thor Odinson, but was quickly incapacitated by the joint efforts of S.H.I.E.L.D. after they discovered Umbrella's true plans.

Following this defeat, 18, alongside the other survivors, were taken in by Nick Fury, who disabled the devices located in the survivors' heads. Once she awoke, Alice learned that the only way to return home was to sneak back in through the Umbrella facility and locate the device that brought her there in the first place, the Tesseract.

After a brief moment's rest, Azura and the rest of the group set off to infiltrate the Umbrella facility, lead by Scott Lang and Wanda Maximoff. However, things went awry as one of the traitors, Lucifer Morningstar, had killed Scott and Alice Twilight. Unfortunately, the group had wrongfully thought that James Proudstar was the traitor instead.

Following this, Wanda's powers needed time to regenerate, so the group split further into the facility. 18 went to Experimental Applications, where she and the others found a a strange area where Umbrella scientists were testing the ability of creatures versus live targets. 18, alongside the others, ended up meeting with a woman named Claire Redfield, and 18 helped with saving her from a room filled with traps.

When the groups reunited, another one of the traitors, Azura, had killed Naomi Kimishima and Inspector Navel. The group correctly guessed it was Azura who was responsible, and Wanda undid the force that was forcing Azura to commit these acts.

The group split up once again, 18 entering Drug Manufacturing, where she came into contact with Morpheus D. Duvall and helped defeat him in battle alongside the others in the group.

Once the groups reconvened, three more people died: Ada Wong, Doremi the Meloetta, & Jabber the Riolu. 18 assisted the group in the investigation, yet they came up short, wrongfully convicting Jinx of the crime.

The group, once again, split up, 18 heading down the West Hall, exploring a strange, rotting manor before falling victim to a trap, one that infected her with a virus known as the T-Virus.

Once again, murder struck, as Lucifer had killed both Azura and Cullen Bloodstone. Fortunately, the group correctly guessed Lucifer was the one responsible, and the mental control over him was lifted by Wanda.

The group split into two once again, 18 heading down to the Testing room, where she encountered William Birkin. William explained his motives, that what he and his wife Annette were doing with the Tesseract is something that could help bring back their dead daughter Sherry. William informed the group of his next plans, which prompted the group to follow him into the labs, where they found the corpses of Senna and Blake Dormi.

18 assisted the group in the investigation, correctly unveiling Clark as the final traitor. As Wanda freed him from his mental chains, William infected himself with the G-Virus, aiming to kill the group. However, 18 and the rest of the group succeeded in taking him down.

The group that was replicated was soon reunited with those who had never died, and entered the vault where the Tesseract was located, where they finally encountered the true mastermind, Diablo. Alucard and the group attempted to fight him, yet his power was too much for the group to defeat him, and he easily overcame them. However, an alternative Albert Wesker utilized a secret switch to send Alucard and the rest of the group into a coma, where they would be cryogenically frozen and guarded by Oswell E. Spencer until the end of the Coalition Civil War, where she would be discovered by a joint task force between the Coalition and the ODMA.

Following her awakening, 18 managed to safely return to her home world and reunite with her family.

Character Relationships[]

  • Clark Kent - The protagonist of Smallville who also debuted in Genesis. Tagging along with Clark for much of the event, 18 often made snarky comments in response to Clark's remarks and inadvertently seemed to undermine him at many turns, Clark's position as a physically powerful, yet naive person reminding 18 of her world's very own Son Goku.

Trivia[]

  • Android 18 is capable of taking baths without short-circuiting herself, as shown after bathing, she comes out perfectly fine; this proves that cyborg-type "androids" can still bathe, without the worry of short-circuiting, since they are humans turned into cyborgs.
