Producer Kido, sometimes often alternatively referred to as simply The Producer or by his full name, Maki Kido, is a depiction of the protagonist of The Idolmaster, specifically the spinoff series Cinderella Girls. He made his debut in The War of the Universe.

Canon[]

Producer Kido is a depiction of the "Producer" protagonists of the Idolmaster series, often referred to simply as "The Producer."

A young rookie producer of an unnamed, large Production in Japan, Producer Kido is in charge of maintaining a large, ever-growing, group of aspiring idols of all kinds, their popularity, their relationships, and so on, among other aspects.

While he appears more carefree compared to most depictions of the Producer, his head is still in the game. This tiny Producer, standing at a meter and a half, gets along pretty well with the tiny ones and finds mild difficulty dealing with larger people.

Pre-Convergence[]

Although it is unknown what Producer Kido was doing prior to his involvement in Elliot's Downfall, but it is generally presumed that he was living his normal, everyday life before the Reapers attacked his home world and he was transported to the Normandy alongside one of his idols, Syoko Hoshi.

Plot Involvement[]

The War of the Universe[]

At the Prologue, Kido and Syoko play around with Applejack, Applebloom, and Deemo, believing that they are non-sentient and mere pets. Kido occasionally passes snarky comments.

During Chapter 5, Syoko, Deemo, and Little Girl were capable of disabling a mechanical being with the power of music as Big Daddy drills through the creature. In the final battle with Elliot, Producer steers the frenzying duo of Applejack and Apple Bloom, then uses the magic of Cinderella to turn them into a pegasus and unicorn respectively, as well as enhance the song-based abilities of Syoko, Deemo, and Little Girl. He improvised Applejack as a steed and Applebloom as a gun, allowing him to defeat Elliot through the combined forces of the Magic of Cinderella and the Magic of Friendship.

It is known that he returned home to his home world safely, before later meeting with Applejack and Applebloom in Equestria for a party. Some time following this, Kido and his sister Madoka Karasuma joined the United Nations.

Civil War[]

During the Coalition Civil War, Kido mostly sided with Kyoko Kirigiri. His mostly spewed banter and commentary.

Following Shiki Tohno's destruction of the fake, illusionary world before them, everyone entered their separate illusion. In Kido's illusionary world, he was dealt with what was supposedly his greatest fear - Mirei, Nono, and Syoko despising him for some reason, before the police and an illusionary Kyoko arrived to arrest him. He jumped out of the window and experienced a supposedly endless fall, before ending up in a combined illusion with Madoka Karasuma and Zen. There, he resisted the temptations offered by an illusionary Unknown, claiming that they were 'not appealing', even after Unknown attempted to push his buttons by suggesting the possibility of his greatest fear - his idols leaving him. Kido then proclaims that he believes that this day is an inevitable one no matter how much he fears it and that he will make the best of whatever limited time he has to make more memories.

After this, Zen, Madoka, and Kido head back to Kido's illusionary world to deal with the illusions. That was when Mason and Artyom came. Kido took Lucifer and Shizuo's earlier conversation in Chapter 3 about how they have an affinity for fighting girls who end up falling for or following them after proving their strength, causing him to come up with the idea to beat the bollocks out of the illusionary versions of his idols, claiming that he has to face his own nightmares.

Following that, they entered the illusions of Robin, Corrin, and finally Mason.

In Chapter 5, Kido and Madoka acquire Lucifer's help to expose Add's devious deeds.

It is presumed that Kido and Madoka returned safely to their home world following the event.

The Secretariat[]

Kido briefly appears here welcoming intern Umi Sonoda to the organization, eagerly offering to take her on a tour alongside Akane Tsunemori and Nobuchika Ginoza.

Right Hand of the Magic God[]

Kido makes a brief cameo at the end of the fourth chapter alongside his sister Madoka, embracing his idols to comfort them as the multiverse is destroyed by Othinus.

It is presumed that Maki is resurrected along with the restoration of the multiverse.

Character Relationships[]

  • Syoko Hoshi - Another character from The Idolmaster who also made her debut in The War of the Universe. Syoko is one of the many idols that the Producer overlooks, and as a result, they share a close working relationship with each other.
  • Deemo - A protagonist of Deemo who also debuted in The War of the Universe. Producer admires Deemo's musical feats and capabilities, to the point of wanting to recruit him.
  • Little Girl - Another protagonist of Deemo who also debuted in The War of the Universe. Same as Deemo. He is fond of the kid and probably wants to recruit her.
  • Applejack - A major character from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic who debuted in The War of the Universe. Kido had fun with the ponies in The War of the Universe. Noting that Applejack sounded familiar, he told her to do the "Nico Nico Nii." In Chapter 5, Producer used the magic of Cinderella to temporarily turn her into a pegasus, while a perfect version of the spell would've turned her into an Alicorn.
  • Applebloom - A major character from My Little Pony who also debuted in The War of the Universe. His interactions with Applejack are mostly identical to that of Applejack since the Apple sisters were hardly separated. In Chapter 5, Producer used the magic of Cinderella to temporarily turn her into a unicorn, while a perfect version of the spell would've turned her into an Alicorn.
  • Akane Tsunemori - The protagonist of Psycho-Pass who debuted in Little Trouble in Neo-Tokyo. They interacted briefly during the events of The War of the Universe, with Kido believing Akane would make a good idol. As they began occasionally working with each other as he joined the United Nations, he grew to develop romantic feelings for her.
  • Mirei Hayasaka - Another character from The Idolmaster who debuted in Restless in Rapture. They share a close working and friendly relationship, but there are implications that it might be beyond that.
  • Nono Morikubo - Yet another character from The Idolmaster who debuted in Monokuma's Awakening. Aside from prologues and epilogues, they do not have much interaction within the written sections of the Murder Series, but it is stated that Nono highly trusts him, and the only other person to par with this is Kyoko Kirigiri.
  • Madoka Karasuma - Another depiction of the Producer character from The Idolmaster who debuted in Civil War. Constantly stated to be his sister, and highly implied to be a half-sister specifically, Madoka acts as a "straight man" to Kido's antics.
  • Add - A major character from Elsword who debuted in The War of the Universe. The two of them initially acted as allies during the fight against Elliot, and then ended up working together for a longer period of time once they had officially decided to join the United Nations. Later, during the events of Civil War, Kido and others worked to reveal Add as a spy for the organization with true allegiances to the Blood Institute.
  • Mason Moretti - An original character who debuted in Civil War. They acted as notable allies during the event and currently work together as associates as of Mason joining the United Nations in the aftermath.

Trivia[]

  • Kido is 150cm tall with a BWH of 78-53-79.
  • He states that he produces 12 idols, inclusive of Mirei, Syoko, and Nono, who form the unit Individuals.
  • He has herpetophobia, although only directed at iguanas.
  • His appearance and personality are distinct from the Producers depicted in The Idolmaster and The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls anime adaptations, as well as other media. However, his suspiciously young age might be a reference to the infamous THE iDOLM@STER BREAK! manga. Like the protagonist Yuutarou, Kido is a Producer despite being below the age of 18.
    • He, coincidentally, also shares similarities to the Producer of Cinderella Girls U149. Both Producers are signified by a petite appearance and they share a quirky, exaggerative, carefree nature.
