Shantae is the main protagonist of the Shantae series. She made her series debut in Trouble in Paradise.
Canon[]
Shantae is the guardian genie of Scuttle Town. She often butts heads with Risky Boots, a pirate who often wants to take control, or sometimes even destroy, Scuttle Town for her own personal gain. She cares deeply for her uncle and her two best friends, Sky and Bolin, and will go out of her way to protect them when they're in peril.
Pre-Convergence[]
Before the events of Trouble in Paradise, Shantae was fighting Risky as usual back at her volcano base. After a short battle, Shantae knocked Risky into the machine she was going to use to destroy Scuttle Town, causing it to explode.
All that Shantae could remember after that was waking up on the plane, meaning that Shantae had encountered I-No soon after this.
Plot Involvement[]
Trouble in Paradise[]
Shantae remained very active throughout the event, often participating in the games and helping out in general up until her death at the end of the fifth chapter.
From there, she helped out in the afterlife as well, namely helping the others defeat Fawful. She usually let Maria, a little girl she met on the plane, influence her decisions, as Shantae had grown an attachment to her throughout the course of the event, and felt responsible if she were to get seriously injured or killed.
In the epilogue, as she is revived, Shantae and Risky safely return to their home world together.
Character Relationships[]
- Risky Boots - The main antagonist of the Shantae series who also made her debut in Trouble in Paradise. Though the two were arguing and bickering with each other at first, they eventually decided that doing so would get them nowhere and formed a mutual tempotary alliance. By the end of the event, the two had formed a friendship.
- Maria Ushiromiya - A character from Umineko no Naku Koro who also debuted in Trouble in Paradise. Shantae first encountered Maria on the plane, as she was seated next to her. After Maria started calling out and looking for her mother, Shantae felt sorry for the girl and promised her that she'd help find her mom. Although they never did so, Shantae and Maria had a healthy relationship, the former often checking to see if Maria was okay after battles and generally being in her company throughout the entire event.

- Shantae is very self conscious about her status as only a half-genie, sometimes doubting her own abilities because of it.
