Shiki Tohno, born Shiki Nanaya, is the protagonist of the Tsukihime series. He made his debut in The Ties That Bind.

Canon[]

Shiki is the protagonist of the Tsukihime franchise, which, like Fate/stay night, is part of the Type-Moon universe.

Born to a family of demon hunters and adopted by the Tohno, he thought he was just an ordinary boy at first, before he got caught up in the business of vampires and demons that lurk within Misaki Town, good and bad, unraveling the secrets of his family and its connection to the powerful vampires of ancient fame, meeting the likes of Arcueid Brunestud, Ciel, and others along the way.

Pre-Convergence[]

Still recovering mentally from being forced to kill someone who was very close to him during the events of Tsukihime, Shiki was rather abruptly and rudely brought into Las Vegas against his own will, where he encountered the Crossed.

Plot Involvement[]

The Ties That Bind[]

Though he wasn't the most involved person in The Ties That Bind, he participated fairly often in the traitor votes. Shiki made friends with other survivors like Kiritsugu Emiya, and developed a small, budding romance with Mikasa Ackerman, while also coming to respect the likes of Elsa and Solaire of Astora.

Some notable events he underwent included playing a part in defeating the Nemesis monster spawned from Elsa's sister, and accidentally switching bodies with Mikasa as a result of a potion for a period of time. Behind the scenes, he had killed Lambdadelta off-screen while attempting to break up a deadly quarrel between her and Vi, though this was revealed in Legend of Zelda Extravaganza that it was merely a sort of "puppet" of the real Lambdadelta.

During the climax of the Murder Game, he had lost his glasses in the heat of the battle against the Crossed, forced to wrap bandages around his eyes to prevent his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception from overloading his brain. He later proceeded to kill Jack Krauser, an agent of Albert Wesker, avenging Dandy in the process, before having one last conversation with Mikasa Ackerman, asking her if the moon is still as beautiful as it was before the Crossed came.

In the epilogue, as the Tesseract is recovered, Shiki manages to return to his home world.

After awakening in a quiet, grassy field on a night after he was transported back to his world, Shiki looks up at the sky and thinks about the ordeal he had just went through. Suddenly, before he knows it, Aoko Aozaki stumbles upon him, and she notes that he seems to have lost his glasses. Smiling, Shiki simply tells Aoko that he has a story to tell her.

After The Ties That Bind[]

Shiki submits his testimony of his account during the Crossed Incident alongside Aoko, submitting her own report of the simultaneous Gotham City Incident, to the Mage's Association. He also receives new "Mystic Eye Killers" during this time.

Shortly afterward, he undergoes the events of Kagetsu Tohya, where he meets Len for the first time.

The Reapers' Game[]

After learning of the demise of Ciel, Shiki was utterly distraught, and wished for nothing more than for her to come back. Through his friend Arcueid Brunestud and her mystical connection to the world, The Counter Force, or rather, the will of the Earth, granted Shiki's wish, sending him into the world of the Reapers to retrieve Ciel. According to Arcueid and the Counter Force, Ciel would be needed to relay the information she has gathered to the Mage's Association concerning the Arch Demon, as well as a later anomaly that will be brought about by an unknown figure named Fiamma of the Right.

Unlike the other characters, Shiki was not an official participant of The Reapers' Game, more of an intruder than anything. He appeared roughly halfway through, meeting up with Ciel, Minato Arisato, Marcus Wright, and others, before having a reunion with Mikasa that didn't end so well for either of them, as Mikasa was chased down and just about killed by a vengeful Chandra.

As he was not an official participant, he was unable to participate in the Traitor votes, but he kept himself allied with the survivors.

During the climax, when the Survivors were given the choice to either side with John White or Joshua, Shiki officially stayed neutral, not actively participating in the final battle and instead attempting to chase down the revived Mikasa, who had revealed her intentions of allying with John White to end the Murder Game cycle for good.

Meanwhile, from the safety of a pocket dimension, Arcueid Brunestud, under the Archetype Earth persona, watches Shiki and the events of the incident. She muses to herself on how she should punish Shiki for breaking the two parts of his agreement; making sure to save Ciel and making sure to actively strive to protect the multiverse, or in this case, actively siding with Joshua.

Meanwhile, Shiki reconciles one last time with Mikasa, revealing that like her, he was working on attempting to end the cycle of the Murder Games. He chides her for not listening to him, but decides that it's too late for regrets now. Mikasa apologizes, sharing one last soft moment with him, offering a last kiss and her sword to remember her by. Before Mikasa is forced to pass on, Shiki promises to her that he will shoulder her burden and take on the responsibility of ending the Murder Games for her. With that, Mikasa peacefully passes on to the other side. Following this, Shiki returns to his home world, only to end up in Arcueid's pocket dimension for a short moment.

When he appears in the pocket dimension in which Arcueid resides, she scolds him and tells him of his wrongdoings during the Game. Shiki owns up to his mistakes, surprising the goddess. Regardless, Arcueid prepares to penalize Shiki, before stopping rather abruptly and promptly explaining the reasons why she had changed her mind. In response, Shiki reaffirms his decision to uphold Mikasa's wish, and begins to leave, desiring to return home.

The Ultimate Game[]

Leading off Aoko Aozaki's appearance in Fusion, utilizing Arcueid Brunestud's Marble Phantasm ability like he did with The Reapers' Game, Shiki was transported into the Murder Game as part of Aoko's plan, musing over his history with the Murder phenomena, and cutting up some debris that he was trapped under when he had been transported to the desolated New York City.

Shiki was a fairly prominent force within the event, interacting with a good number of the Survivors and whatnot. He made friends with Plutia and had a small partnership with Aqua due to their shared friendship with Aoko Aozaki.

Under the influence of his alternate self, Shiki Nanaya, he killed Joseph Aniphage, Frank Castle, and Lisa Castle over the course of the event. Nanaya most prominently manifested in the virtual reality when Shiki's psyche collapsed temporarily, flirting with Junko Enoshima and Sakuya Izayoi, as well as bothering The Lone Wanderer.

In the final chapter, he used the sabotaged Ultimate Nullifier on the Arch Demon, greatly weakening him enough that the other Survivors, most notably Legolas, Izana, Stitch, Plutia, and Bayonetta, were able to finish him off. Shiki also dealt one of the final blows, having Plutia's Iris Heart form to throw him through the air at the Arch Demon and sever the demon's arm.

As the Arch Demon is ultimately defeated, Shiki manages to return to his home world as the multiverse is safe once more.

AokoEpilogue

Shiki and Aoko spending time together after the death of the Arch Demon.

After returning home, he attended a holiday celebration at a local shrine with Arcueid Brunestud, briefly mentioning Ciel and Minato Arisato as the two of them bantered back and forth with each other.

Before long, Arcueid inquired about Mikasa, to which Shiki began describing her and recounting his memories in the Murder Games, while also mentally musing that in his heart, he knew that the so-called cycle was far from over, but that he was resolved to keep on fighting for her sake. And for his.

Right Hand of the Crimson Moon[]

He appears briefly in the afterlife segment, being seen by the Survivors as he was seen training in the outside of Misaki Town with Aoko Aozaki. Escorting the participants, notably Minato Arisato, Kirby, and Robin Tact, into the town, they had unexpectedly found that the town was overcome with the TATARI phenomena, which conjures illusions of one's fears, courtesy of Night of Wallachia. One of these fears included the physical manifestation of Satsuki Yumizuka, Shiki's deceased girlfriend whom he had killed prior to the events of The Ties That Bind.

After the defeat of Night of Wallachia, he, along with Illya and, reluctantly, the spirit of Yumizuka, accompanied the Survivors to acquire the Dress of Heaven, which Illya claimed would be able to end the Murder Game. While traversing through a forest, they had come across a shack in the middle of the forest, which was later be revealed to be a workshop of the doll maker, Touko Aozaki, Aoko's older sister.

As Touko explains her involvement with the event, having been making new bodies for those who died, she forced Shiki and Yumizuka to stay behind and work under her, as it turned out that Shiki's glasses, which suppressed his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, were custom made by Touko herself, and were stolen from Aoko many years earlier. With that, Touko sent the rest of the Survivors on their way after revealing Kirei Kotomine's involvement with everything.

Shiki is not seen again until the aftermath, in which he is seen working at Touko's workshop with the spirit of Yumizuka, witnessing Touko joke around with an enraged Aoko on the phone, who was angry that Touko appeared to have stolen more money from her bank account as Touko feigned ignorance.

The Life of Shiki Tohno[]

First Chapter - The Life of Shiki Tohno[]

During his time working under Touko Aozaki, Shiki spends much of that time pondering his life, and his past with Satsuki Yumizuka, as well as why she continues to remain in this world, even though the vampire that brought her spirit into existence, Night of Wallachia, has long since been defeated. Touko muses that perhaps the key to Yumizuka passing on once and for all is to help her achieve what she had wanted to fulfill in her life before she died, leaving Shiki to wonder what that wish might be.

Second Chapter - The Epiphany of Shiki Tohno[]

Shiki decides to finally confront Yumizuka after days of deliberately avoiding her, deciding that nothing would get solved if he continued running away from his problems, which was something he had promised that he would never do again.

When the two of them walked together to a park in Misaki Town, they sat down together on a nearby bench, before beginning to talk to each other. With that, he asks her what she wanted out of life when she was alive, though Yumizuka's answers prove to be somewhat unhelpful. However, when Yumizuka continues that all she ever wanted was to happily be with Shiki, he snaps, angrily remarking that if that were true, she would already be gone and have already left him alone, before then proceeding to express the true extent of how Yumizuka's death had deeply affected him.

In response, Yumizuka simply smiles and asks Shiki if he had ever been happy once ever since the day she had died, remarking that if he really was so sad that he wanted to die like he said, then he indeed would be dead by now, which of course he was not. With the question, Shiki thinks back to his recent life, notably the beginning of the Murder Games and how his life had been up to that point, remembering how he had fallen in love with Mikasa, how he had decided to grow stronger and face his problems after her death (whilst hypocritically continuing to run away from Yumizuka's memory without even realizing it), and using that strength to defeat the Arch Demon and his minions in order to make sure Mikasa rested easy. With that, Shiki nodded, affirming that he had indeed been capable of being happy again all this time.

With that, Yumizuka suddenly began to disappear, and it was only then that Shiki had realized that Yumizuka's wish was for Shiki to be happy again, rather than to see him suffer like he had forced himself to believe all this time. He desperately pleads her to stay, having changed his mind now that he knew her true intentions, but Yumizuka only tells him to keep moving forward no matter what, before completely disappearing for the second and last time, leaving Shiki all alone once again.

Later, he returns home and reconciles with his younger sister, Akiha Tohno, remarking that he had finally found his hope again.

Third Chapter - The Departure of Shiki Tohno[]

Several days after his emotional episode, Shiki is seen on a morning like any other sitting outside the Tohno Residence on a fountain, seemingly thinking about nothing, as he describes. Akiha appears before him and admonishes him on his careless thinking, encouraging him to settle back into his once normal life, but Shiki claims that he is unable to do so, citing that he has had other things on his mind. Akiha suddenly breaks down and yells at Shiki, believing his response to be another gesture of his mannerisms of being distant as she always believed he was and how, after many years of this behavior, she had finally become sick of it, running off as abruptly as she had appeared, leaving a bewildered Shiki behind.

Later that night, Shiki is seen sitting inside the room, thinking over the events that had transpired with after-dinner tea, Akiha having refused to leave the room ever since the incident earlier that day. Kohaku then appears before Shiki, the maid briefly teasing him, before Shiki decides to confide in her, inquiring why Akiha acted the way she did earlier, before being asked in return "where he was" now and told how distant he never realized he always seemed to be. Perplexed, Shiki is left wondering what Kohaku means, and what he must do about it if he is to be able to remain as he is. The next day, Shiki realizes what he must do if he wants to remain living as he is; he has to go on a journey to truly find himself.

That night, in an attempt to sneak out of the house without alerting the others, Shiki is halted by one final obstacle; his personal maid, Hisui, who manages to catch him just as he is about to leave through the front door. She attempts to persuade him to rethink his actions and stay, but Shiki refuses, passionately believing that if he goes, he'll be able to find whatever he's looking for, for everyone else's sakes. Brought to tears due to Shiki's conviction and the connection they share, Hisui finds that she has no choice but to let Shiki go, the young man wandering off into the night without any hesitation.

Fourth Chapter - The Disappearance of Shiki Tohno[]

Shiki appears in the final act of the chapter, seen attempting to buy some snacks from a street vending machine with a credit card, only to end up breaking the machine and stealing the food when Akiha freezes the card from home.

Fifth Chapter - The Law of Shiki Tohno[]

He makes his appearance shortly after Minato Arisato and Len find him in the middle of a forest outside Misaki Town, the two young men conversing before Shiki allowed them to spend the night at camp. The next day, he is seen speaking to the spirit of Kouma Kishima, as though he were the real Kishima, before affirming that he is no longer the same young boy that had been spared all those years ago. Content with himself, the spirit of Kishima passes on, and Shiki continues on his journey, now accompanied by Len as Minato returns home.

Sixth Chapter - The Hunt for Shiki Tohno[]

After having a brief flashback of when he was a child, being carried by his father Kiri Nanaya, Shiki senses a sinister figure lurking from beyond the tall grass in the empty field in front of him after getting out of the woods with Len. The figure in question is VECTOR, a man who claims to work for the Umbrella Remnants, and a battle ensues between them when VECTOR claims that Shiki must die because of his status as a "Progenitor."

Eventually, VECTOR is able to gain the upper hand and restrains Shiki by stabbing his knife into the younger man's shoulder. It is then that Shiki's life begins to flash before his eyes as he loses the will to resist, and his vision goes black. When he opens his eyes again, he finds himself in a world of nothing but black, lying on the floor, unable to move, as his original personality that had lay dormant all this time, Shiki Nanaya, admonished him for his weak will. As Nanaya prepares to kill Tohno in order to finalize his death in the real world, asking him if it angers him that he'd go out this way, and asking if it bothered him that he was leaving behind so much, Shiki Tohno has an epiphany and gains the will to live at the last minute, having realized that he was scared to die, and remembering that his life has value because of what he has left behind, and what he must pick up again.

With that, he is able to push off VECTOR and kill him, ending the fight between them. However, his injuries prove to be grievous, and as Len rushes over to check on him, Shiki remarks on how if VECTOR was not from this world, perhaps that meant that he had a device on him that was able to traverse through the multiverse.

Seventh Chapter - The Ideal of Shiki Tohno[]

After waking up from a dream where he begins to walk away from the hill where he had left many things behind, Shiki finds himself in the Coalition Med-Bay, being tended to Akiko Yosano, with whom he converses until he is interrupted by Doppo Kunikida, another Coalition member who allows him a tour through the headquarters, the man eventually informing Shiki that his mere presence is troubling, as if he would claim that the multiverse traveling device he used to reach HQ was in the hands of an Umbrella Operative, then this spelled potential trouble.

Deciding to pass the time, Shiki reads up on the incident reports, the name "Ilona" catches his attention, as it is stated that her home is the land of Arendelle, which he recognizes as the home of Queen Elsa, whom he had vaguely known from past incidents. It is here that he realizes that she had passed away, and he displays worry over the fact that Ilona is considered to be a subject to be put under close surveillance for whatever reason.

In the end, some time after finishing his reading session, Shiki reaches out to the window in the Observatory, thinking of back home, and how he had one more last thing to do before he'd be able to go home. Likewise, back home, Akiha is seen reaching out at the window of her bedroom, wishing for Shiki to come back.

During the period between after the end of The Life of Shiki Tohno and the beginning of Civil War, Shiki came to learn more of the workings of the multiverse with the resources given to him by the Coalition, such as knowledge on certain events, places, and more.

Civil War[]

Shiki plays a prominent role in Civil War, acting as one of the forefront figures within the event despite not being considered an official Coalition Member.

In the beginning, he and Len mingle and interact with figures that he stayed with over the course of the Coalition Civil War when it would eventually begin, notably including Ilona, Sakuya Izayoi, and later, Ruby Rose and Mason Moretti, Sakuya and Ruby being those he was already lightly familiar with due to allying with each other during the battle against the Arch Demon. His status as a Progenitor is put into play, as he is one of the top targets of Umbrella, and part of the key to unlocking Ilona's power, hence the death of Jill Valentine that would jump start the war.

His relationship with Ilona came to be an integral part of the civil war's progress, as over the course of the event, he befriended her, unknowingly betrayed her trust by placing doubt on her, and eventually, coming to make amends with Ilona upon realizing how much he was able to sympathize with her struggles, going far enough to revert to his Nanaya form for a brief moment, falling into despair and deciding that if ultimate power was something to be feared, then he would bear the weight of the multiverse's fear so that Ilona wouldn't have to, though he would be promptly stopped and snapped back to sense by the likes of Ilona, Sakuya, and Ruby.

After the climactic showdown against the likes of Mother's creations, originating from the memories of those in the area, including Shiki (one of the creations being a clone of a vampire he had once killed named Roa), and with it being settled that it would be best to help Ilona hone her power in a safe environment, Shiki bid farewell to Ilona as she went off with Mom Lalonde and Ritsuko Akagi, promising that they would meet again one day. With that, he and Len went off to travel with Sakuya and Remilia Scarlet back to their world as part of a detour back to his own home world, as Shiki had previously arranged to stop by the Scarlet Devil Mansion for just a little.

Before leaving the Coalition HQ with Len, Sakuya, and Remilia, Shiki is stopped at the last moment by Akiko Yosano, who wishes to speak with him one more time. Accepting her request, Akiko proceeds to ask Shiki how he is able to continue going on after knowing what the circumstances of being a Progenitor include, emphasizing that he cannot have a child, or they would end up like Ilona, considering the Malevolent energy residing within Shiki, to which he responded that he doesn't mind if he has a limited lifespan, or if he is forbidden to have children, as the only thing he wants out of his life is the chance to return home and live happily with his family, nothing more and nothing less, knowing full well that he is not long for this life. Akiko, satisfied with this answer, lets Shiki go, bidding a farewell to him, but also telling him that should the Coalition run into a certain kind of problem, she would be sure to call him.

After traveling to Sakuya's world and finishing his business there, as chronicled below in Under the Scarlet Moon, Shiki and Len finally returned to their home world, appearing in the same spot as they had been after Shiki had killed VECTOR quite some time ago. Cutting his way back into the forest that would eventually lead back to Misaki Town, the two of them came face to face with the real Kouma Kishima, as opposed to the illusion conjured by Night of Wallachia, who recounts how it has been just about a decade since the last time they'd met and expresses regret at his choice to murder the Nanaya clan that Shiki was born to. He asks Shiki to kill him in order to get his revenge, but Shiki refuses, having moved on from any desire for revenge a long time ago, and stating that if he came to regret his actions, then he never should have done them. Coldly stating that they will not meet again, Shiki decides to live Kishima with the guilt of the family's murder, though before he can walk away, Kishima stops Shiki one last time, stating that with his limited time left, he should cherish every moment he has, before disappearing once again as abruptly as he had appeared, disconnecting himself from society, just as he'd done so after murdering the Nanaya family.

After eventually reaching Misaki Town again and returning to the Tohno Mansion, Shiki happily reunites with his family there; Hisui, Kohaku, and Akiha. It is presumed that others in town catch wind of his return, including Arcueid Brunestud and Ciel.

In the last part of the epilogue, Shiki is seen visiting an unmarked grave located in the small forest beyond the mansion backyard. It is unknown if the grave is more for Yumizuka or Mikasa, though it is noted that Mikasa's sword, which she had given to him during The Reapers' Game and used by Shiki during The Ultimate Game, is stabbed into the ground in front of the grave. He speaks to the grave, commenting on how it had been a while and musing on how much he had changed since then. Eventually, he is interrupted when his Mystic Eyes overcome his suppressing glasses for a moment, reminding him that the time he has is short, and that he should spend his remaining time with those he cares for in this world, rather than those who have already moved on, as he'll be meeting them soon enough on the other side when his time comes as well. With that, the tale of Shiki Tohno concludes, as he leaves to do just that.

Under the Scarlet Moon[]

Following the first part of Shiki's epilogue in Civil War, Shiki and Len travel with Sakuya and Remilia to the Scarlet Devil Mansion for a relaxing rendezvous, meeting some other figures in the world such as Hong Meiling. However, the pleasantries are cut short when an unfamiliar force -- later revealing itself to be an entity named "White Len" -- suddenly conjures a Bounded Field over the mansion, weakening many of its inhabitants to near comatose levels, including Len and Remilia.

Shiki himself is rendered comatose as well, and his form is captured by White Len, who had taken an interest in him, describing him as "a prince charming with a dragon inside him," referring to his Nanaya persona, while also referring to Sakuya as Cinderella. While attempting to draw out Nanaya, White Len unintentionally separates the two from each other altogether, Nanaya manifesting in a completely solid physical form independent of Tohno. With this miscalculation, White Len is forced to flee temporarily, allowing Nanaya to reunite with Sakuya following his appearance in the Coalition Civil War.

Nanaya accompanies Sakuya and Flandre Scarlet, Remilia's sister, through the warped reality that White Len had made out of the Scarlet Mansion, seeming to ally with them under the pretense of acting for the fun of it. However, in the climax of the story, Nanaya suddenly turns on Sakuya and Flandre, stating that he had become attached to living after manifesting so often and interacting with Sakuya enough, taking a twisted appreciation of life as he requests a duel with Sakuya while White Len fights Flandre, wishing nothing more than the thrill of killing or being killed, to give himself the ultimate rush of his life.

As Flandre manages to defeat White Len, so too does Sakuya defeat Nanaya, skewering him mercilessly with knives. With his dying breath, Nanaya -- in his own twisted way -- professes his love to Sakuya, or at least his definition of love, before disappearing. It is ambiguous whether the Nanaya persona is permanently destroyed or if it simply reverted back to inside Tohno, but all the same, just as Nanaya disappears, Tohno wakes up again as the threat of Whiet Len is put to an end.

In the aftermath, a day later, Shiki is seen laying in the mansion's garden by Sakuya, and invites the maid to sit down with him as well. There, the two profess their love to each other, and though they know that pursuing a relationship with each other would prove difficult due to their personal circumstances, they attempt to work it out with each other.

Character Relationships[]

  • Mikasa Ackerman - One of the protagonists of Attack on Titan. He developed a subtle romance between her during The Ties That Bind, but unfortunately couldn't get very far before they were transported back to their respective worlds. They met up again during The Reapers' Game, but not under the best circumstances, as Mikasa had become delirious and dead-centered on ending the cycle of the Murder Games. Still, by the end, they managed to reconcile, and share a last, soft moment with each other. This event would influence Shiki deeply, developing his character quite a bit and molding him into who he would be by the time of The Ultimate Game.
  • Aoko Aozaki - A character in Tsukihime who has also went on appear in Melty Blood, and make her canonical debut in Shadow Over Gotham. She was an important figure to Shiki when he was a child, giving him the glasses that suppressed his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Shiki looked up to her like a teacher, and even though they had only met once before the events of Tsukihime, he never forgot her. They briefly meet again during The Ultimate Game and Right Hand of the Crimson Moon, where Aoko aids Shiki and the Survivors of each event.
  • Arcueid Brunestud - A major character from Tsukihime who made her debut in The Reapers' Game. Arcueid is incredibly friendly, and possibly romantically interested, with Shiki, though Shiki mostly just tolerates her whimsical personality. In The Reapers' Game, taking upon the persona of the will of the Earth, as Arcueid is said to be closely connected to Gaia, she makes a contract with Shiki to bring back Ciel, who had perished at the hands of the Arch Demon.
  • Satsuki Yumizuka - Another character from Tsukihime who debuted in Right Hand of the Crimson Moon, though she made a cameo appearance through a flashback in The Ultimate Game, and had been referenced many times in previous events as well. In the world where she and Shiki hail from, she was his short-lived girlfriend whom he swore to protect, but failed as Yumizuka was be transformed into a vampire against her own will, and attempted to kill Shiki in her madness, only to end up dead herself. Deeply traumatized by the events, Shiki would block out and repress her name and almost her entire being from his memory, though come the events of Right Hand of the Crimson Moon, he would be forced to face his past and its reality.
  • Ciel - A heroine of Tsukihime who debuted in The Reapers' Game. By day, she acts as an upperclassman and good friend of Shiki at school, and by night, something of a demon hunter duo. The two of them met while Ciel was hunting down a powerful vampire known as Michael Roa Valdamjong, or simply "Roa." After Ciel had perished at the hands of the Arch Demon, Shiki made a deal with the Counter Force in order to save her and bring her back.
  • Touko Aozaki - A major character from Kara no Kyoukai who debuted in The Ultimate Game. After discovering that his glasses, the Mystic Eye Killers, were stolen from her by Aoko, Touko decides that he would pay back all his time using the glasses by working under her, mostly with menial labor and other occasional odd jobs in an equivalent of The Hollow Shrine.
  • Akiha Tohno - A heroine from Tsukihime who debuted in The Life of Shiki Tohno. Shiki is the adoptive brother of Akiha, brought in by her father, Makihisa Tohno, after Kouma Kishima had slaughtered his blood family, the Nanaya clan. Shiki and Akiha love each other very much, and though Akiha loves Shiki as more than just a brother, she is content with being just that for now.
  • Hisui - Another heroine of Tsukihime who also debuts in The Life of Shiki Tohno. Though she and Kohaku serve whoever is a part of the Tohno family, Hisui had been assigned by Akiha to be Shiki's personal maid, thus the two of them are closer with each other than Kohaku is to him. Hisui happens to also have been a childhood friend of Shiki's in the past, eventually forgotten when circumstances would force Shiki to undergo a hypnosis-induced amnesia, but since then, he has had his memories restored. It is implied that they are subtly attracted to each other, but due to the nature of Shiki's personality, he chooses not to be romantically involved with her.
  • Kohaku - Another heroine of Tsukihime who also made her debut in The Life of Shiki Tohno. Kohaku credits Shiki as the person who managed to save the Tohno family from falling apart after she had nearly destroyed the Tohno family out of her misguided revenge. They share a close, friendly relationship with one another.
  • Kouma Kishima - A character from Tsukihime who also debuted in Right Hand of the Crimson Moon. Though the only time Kishima had met Shiki was when Shiki was a child, watching as Kouma slaughtered the child's family, the event naturally made a huge impact on Shiki's life. Though the whereabouts of the real Kouma Kishima remain unknown to this day, as the Kouma Kishima that appeared in the Convergence Series is a clone of him created by Night of Wallachia, Shiki vividly remembers him despite only meeting him once, occasionally having nightmares of Kishima, whom he also refers to as "Crimson Red Vermilion."
  • Len - Another character from Tsukihime who debuts in The Life of Shiki Tohno. Formerly a companion of Arcueid Brunestud, Len eventually came to become the familiar of Shiki, both of them depending on each other for life energy whenever they might need it. She accompanies him sometime during his journey to find himself.
  • Minato Arisato - The protagonist of Persona 3 who also debuted in The Reapers' Game. Becoming mutual acquaintances through Ciel after Minato had decided to return to her world with her, Minato becoming a student at the local high school, they came to truly know more about each other when Minato was dispatched by Arcueid to track down Shiki when he had left Misaki Town on his journey to find himself.
  • Plutia - A character from Hyperdimenion Neptunia who appeared in Coalition Headquarters and The Ultimate Game. The two of them shared a close friendship during the Arch Demon's Fall, and even promised to visit each other's worlds when they could once the event was over, though Shiki remains fearful of Plutia's alternate form, Iris Heart.
  • Akiko Yosano - A major character from Bungo Stray Dogs who debuts in The Life of Shiki Tohno. Shiki developed an unorthodox friendship with Akiko, finding that while her eccentric behavior makes her difficult to interact with often, he is able to respect her views on life and work with her for the good of the multiverse.
  • Ilona - A character original to the Convergence Series who debuts in Right Hand of the Crimson Moon, though Shiki wouldn't meet her until Civil War. As the sole daughter of Solaire of Astora and Elsa, two fellow Progenitors like Shiki, the two of them shared a deep connection with each other, becoming close friends with each other. Shiki is able to sympathize with her struggles during the Coalition Civil War, as he too knows the feeling of possessing an ultimate power that placed everyone and everything around them at risk. It is implied that Ilona develops a small crush on him, but respects his decision to return home in the end.
  • Sakuya Izayoi - A character from Touhou Project who made her debut in The Ultimate Game, and later appears again in Civil War. During the two events, the two of them acted as close allies and friends. It is implied throughout their interactions that Shiki is attracted to Sakuya, most often seen when his Nanaya persona openly flirts with Sakuya. This is confirmed in the end of Under the Scarlet Moon when the two confess their attraction to each other.

Trivia[]

  • Shiki Ryougi is his character prototype. They both share the same power, Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, albeit under a different nature, and Tohno's design is based directly off Ryougi's love interest, Mikiya Kokutou.
