Chapter Details Edit
After accepting an invitation to participate in the Golden Witch's game, participants wake up in a large room with their powers gone and their personal belongings missing. As the group mingles with each other, it becomes clear that one in their group, Ange, knows more than she lets on, telling the others that this game is designed to make them submit to the Witch, and that there is an assistant to the Witch known as the Maestro who assists in this goal. She reveals that she is the sole survivor of the Ushiromiya family, and realizes that they are all in her family's old estate once she finds the diary of her deceased cousin Maria. As the group tries to find their way out of the room, a black cat escapes from a closet, a golden key tied to its tail. Declaring the key to be of significance, Ange leads the group in a chase, which ends in both the cat and Ange jumping from the window and into the forest, Ange closing the window to ensure she isn't followed.
After a short time, the group is finally allowed out when Beatrice's maid, Shannon, comes to collect them. She takes them to the main manor of the estate. She gives them free reign to tour the manor, though refuses to let them enter Beatrice's own living quarters upstairs. Through both Shannon and their search of the house, they are able to learn a bit more about the previous owners of the estate, the Ushiromiyas, and their relationship to Beatrice. They also meet a younger Ange, despite the fact that the original Ange is still searching for the black cat. They must keep her hidden however, as she is there without Beatrice's knowledge. Both she and Shannon reveal that though this house did belong to the Ushiromiya family, during a gathering Beatrice took it over by force. The group also finds she had a deal with a member of the family, Kinzo, as well as a mysterious letter suggesting someone is being manipulated. Further investigation into Maria's diary turns up the name Sachiko, and a television shows eerie images of a cursed school.
Chapter 1 - "The Golden Witch" Edit
The group manages to fix a walkie talkie and hears someone on the other end trying to contact them, but before anything can be done, the clock strikes twelve, and golden butterflies send everyone into an unconscious spell. They awaken in a strange garden, in the presence of Beatrice herself. She greets her guests, and explains the rules of her game, quickly revealing to the group that it is in fact a Murder Game with her own spin on it. Before the game officially starts, she decides to have fun with her guests in her own realm called the Golden Land, and gives them two hours to find a few items around her domain.

Afterlife Details Edit
- In-Universe, this event is known as the "Witch's Game".
- In contrast to other events that had set Traitors from the beginning, this event is unique in that there is only one Traitor per round, and the role is shifted to a new participant every round, determined by the Maestro, and later, Beatrice.
- When the Corpses Cry has received generally positive reception for its use of the Truth System, adding a layer of gameplay that focused on intriguing riddles, and in turn, its well-layered story and characters.
